Joan Evaline Williams, 85, of Hendersonville passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2017 at Pardee Hospital.

Joan was born in Toronto Canada on October 29, 1931. She received her Registered Nurse degree from Toronto Northwestern Hospital in 1953. In 1954 she married John Gordon Williams in Toronto and they moved to Ft. Leonardwood, MO where he was stationed. Upon his discharge from the army, they traveled extensively in the west.

As John pursued a career with General Electric, they relocated to a number of states including Ohio and California. After retiring they chose to settle in Hendersonville in 1990. Over the years, Joan was employed in a variety of nursing positions that included hospital and private doctor practices. Passionate about babies, her favorite nursing assignment was working in the neonatal and obstetrics unit in California. When retired, Joan continued her association with hospitals and helping others by being a volunteer at Pardee Hosptital in Hendersonville.

Joan is predeceased by her loving husband of 60 years, John, and her brother Gordon Mabey. Survivors include daughter Nancy Gainor and her husband John, daughter Susan, son Mike and his wife Dorrie, son Steve and his wife Carrie, grandsons Mike (Haley), Brian (Laura), and Dan (Mary) Gainor, Zane and Greg Williams, and great grandchildren Kendall, Grayson, Ford, Clara, Garrett, Hudson and Parker. She is also survived by her brother in law David Williams and his wife Barbara, as well as her nieces Megan (George) Douglas, Susan (Buddy) Everhart, Ann (Michael)Welton, Jennifer Carlson, Judith (Harry) Almond and her sister-in- law Martha Mabey as well as their extended family.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, October 7th at the First United Methodist Church. A reception will follow.
