Carole Ann Owenby, born on September 7, 1945 in Hendersonville, North Carolina, to the late Janie Owenby and the late William G. Owenby, passed away at age 72 on April 17, 2018. In addition to her parents, Carole was preceded in death by her brothers, Billy Owenby, Gerald Owenby, and Michael (Mickey) Owenby.

Carole Ann Owenby, born on September 7, 1945 in Hendersonville, North Carolina, to the late Janie Owenby and the late William G. Owenby, passed away at age 72 on April 17, 2018. In addition to her parents, Carole was preceded in death by her brothers, Billy Owenby, Gerald Owenby, and Michael (Mickey) Owenby.

 

Carole graduated from East Henderson High School, Flat Rock, North Carolina in 1962 and Western Carolina University, Cullowhee, North Carolina. She worked in the Travel and Tourism industry at St. Pete/Clearwater Convention and Visitors Bureau, Pinellas County Florida as the Executive Director until retiring in 2007.

 

Carole’s hobbies included reading, travel, gardening, and spending time with her beloved dog Gigi. She was a member of Saint Alfred’s Episcopal Church, Dunedin Florida. She was a board member of Friends of the Dunedin Library and founded the Florida Association of Convention and Visitors Bureau. She was very active in the Rotary Club of Dunedin Florida and served in the positions of President (2009-2010) and board member. She was a supporter and volunteer at Honeymoon Island State Park, Dunedin Florida.

 

She is survived by her son, Brian Tucker and his wife, Jessica Tucker; and grandchildren, Gabrielle Tucker and Morgan Tucker. She also leaves behind her dog, Gigi.

 

Friends and family are welcome to attend the memorial service on Friday, May 11 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Honeymoon Island State Park (at the covered shelter near the children’s playground), 1 Causeway Blvd., Dunedin, Florida, 34698. Park entry fees will be considered a donation to support the preservation of Honeymoon Island State Park.  A private family memorial will be held on May 27, 2018 at the family’s cemetery in Graham County, North Carolina.

 

Donations in Carole’s memory to Four Seasons Hospice, 571 S. Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731 and Honeymoon Island State Park, 1 Causeway Blvd, Dunedin, FL 34698, are welcome and appreciated.

 

Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors and Cremation Memorial Center is in charge of the arrangements.
