Charles “Dewey” Hunnicutt died September 14, exactly two weeks after his beloved wife Betty of 71 years went to be with the Lord.

 

Dewey Hunnicutt, age 94 of Flat Rock was a native of Henderson County and was the son of James D. and Alice L. Hunnicutt.  He was preceded in death by sisters Bea Patterson, Doris Riely, and brothers Ed Hunnicutt and J.D. Hunnicutt.  Dewey was survived by sons Charles D. Hunnicutt II and his wife Peggy, and David Hunnicutt; his granddaughter, Millicent Hunnicutt.

 

Dewey was a proud Navy veteran of World War II and served in the Pacific. Returning from war he married the love of his life and began his career in 1946 as a member of the Berkley Spinners baseball team. He continued his career with Kimberly Clark as a supervisor. His retirement years were happily spent on many golf courses as a starter. The last 20 years were his happiest at Cliffs Valley where he made many friends and was the starter and the namesake of the Cliffs annual ladies golf tournament, “The Dewey Cup”. He officially retired at the age of 90.

 

A graveside service with military honors will be held on Friday, September 21st at 11:00 am at Shepherd Memorial Park officiated by the Reverend Steve Scoggins.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations in Dewey’s memory be directed to Steve and Judy Revis, CAMS, P.O. Box 111, Hendersonville, NC 28793; or Wycliffe Bible Translators, with a seperate note stating, “Preference for the Wycliffe Ministry of Keith Patman, Acct #284708, P.O. Box 628200, Orlando, FL 32862 or to Four Seasons Hospice, 571 South Allen Rd, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
