Hendersonville – Clyde E. Knight, died July 19, 2018. He was born to the late John G. and Anna Pearl Jackson Knight in Connellsville, PA in 1931. He is also preceded in death by his sisters, Dakota Olinger and Mary VanHoy; brother, John F. Knight and beloved daughter, Julia M. Knight.

 

In High School, while a member of the track team, he was County champion for 2 years. He qualified for State championship in cross country for 4 years. In 1951, he enlisted in the Korean War. As a criminal investigator in the Army Security Agency, he was based in Eritrea, N. Africa. He returned to a career in the scientific optical field with American Optical as Regional manager in New England and Reichart Product manger in Buffalo, NY. He was also with Olympus America in NY, until his accident while auto racing in Watkins Glen, NY. Moving back to Western New York he established his own business with sales and service microscopes and was a representative for Zeiss Microscopes while living in Derby, NY. He retired to Hendersonville, NC in 1991 where he worked for Champion Hills and volunteered with the Sheriff’s Department.

 

He is survived by Linda, his loving wife of 48 years; his son, Gregg and his wife, Michelle; grandsons, Gregg, Jr. and William Knight of NJ; and by nieces and a nephew.

 

No service will be held.

 

Donations may be made to Four Seasons Hospice, 571 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731, for their wonderful care of Clyde and support for Linda.
