Edward (Ed) W. Nuckolls of Hendersonville passed away Monday, July 23, 2018.  He was born January 10th, 1932 in Waynesville, NC and was a lifelong resident of Hendersonville.  Ed was the second son of the late Hugh A. Nuckolls and Minnie Mae Calhoun Nuckolls. In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his brother Joe A. Nuckolls and his first wife and mother of his three sons, Betty Jo Brown.

 

 

A graduate of Hendersonville High School, served honorably as Staff Sergeant, US Air Force, 336th Fighter Interceptor Squadron in Korea, graduated from NC State University earning degrees in Engineering Physics and Industrial Engineering.  He was a member of Sigma Pi Sigma, Phi Kappa Phi, Alpha Pi Mu, Blue Key, Golden Chain and other honor and leadership organizations. Upon graduation, Ed, had a successful career with Union Carbide Corporation, having worked in different locations in the US in engineering, production, and labor relations. He transferred to Mexico City as Plant Manager of Union Carbide Mexicana Tecamac and later as Managing Director of Union Carbide Singapore Group of Companies.  After his retirement and coming back home, he worked as Production Manager at Steelcase and as an Employment Consultant at NC Employment Security Commission.  Ed served on the Board of Directors of NC FREE and the Rape Crisis Center of Henderson County. Ed was a dedicated Republican. Organized the NC State Young Republican Club and in Hendersonville served as Park Ridge Precinct Chair for fifteen years. He was a registered Professional Engineer and a Member of the Board of Governors, Singapore Institute of Management.

 

 

He is survived by his wife of 43 years Blanca Marquez Nuckolls, three sons Hugh E. Nuckolls of Anderson, SC, J. Barry Nuckolls and wife Rebecca of Andrews, Joe W. Nuckolls and wife Pam, and daughter Alice N. Thomas both of Hendersonville. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Miles, Alex, Jonathan, Elizabeth, Jennifer, Ryan, Cory, Serena and Krista, one great-granddaughter, Emerson, brother H. Paul Nuckolls of Ft. Myers, FL., and a loving niece Sandra Settle and husband Dan and children Daniel and Isabel of Brunswick, GA.

 

 

His funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Hendersonville officiated by the Reverend Steve Scoggins. Burial will follow in Shepherd Memorial Park.

 

 

His family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 P.M. before the service.

 

 

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Lula Mae Briggs Class Missions Fund at First Baptist Church of Hendersonville, 312 5th Avenue W. Hendersonville, NC 28739.

 

 

Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors and Cremation Memorial Center is in charge of the arrangements.
