Lewis Frederick Steinbach, Jr., 94, of Hendersonville, died Thursday, August

16, peacefully in his sleep. “Lew” was a native of Philadelphia, PA, the son

of the late Lewis Frederick Steinbach and Katharine Campbell Pole Steinbach.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Willena G. Steinbach who died

in 1994.

 

Lew graduated from Muhlenberg College and served as a Naval Officer during

World War II.  During his career, he held senior positions with several

companies prior to retiring as an executive with General Electric. 

 

After Lew’s retirement to Hendersonville in 1985, his community activities were extensive. He served as Chairman of the Board of the Council on Aging and was a Board member of Opportunity House, the American Red Cross, Four Seasons Hospice,

and Four Seasons Art Council.  Lew was active in Kiwanis International,

Golden K Kiwanis, and served on the Henderson County Drug & Alcohol Abuse

Task Force.

 

Lew is survived by his current wife, Mildred V. Steinbach; two sons: Lewis

F. Steinbach, III of Bloomington, IL, and Karl B. Steinbach of Yarmouth, ME.

Two daughters: Sheila L. Engel of Georgetown, TX, and Katharine F. McNamara

of London, UK. His eleven grandchildren include four grandsons: Lewis

Steinbach, IV, Ian Steinbach, John Engel and Joseph Engel as well as Seven

granddaughters: Susan Steinbach, Emma Steinbach, Laurel Straub, Carolyn

Anderson, Kelly McNamara, Kaitlyn McNamara, and Erin McNamara.  In addition

to his grandchildren, Lew also had nine great-grandchildren.

 

Per Lew’s wishes, there will be no open service held.  The family will hold a celebration of his life on October 13, 2018 in Bloomington, IL.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Lewis to the donor’s

favorite charity.
