Michael Alan Harris, MD, age 80 of Hendersonville and Johnson City, TN, died Saturday, November 4th, 2017 at the Elizabeth House. He was born October 25th, 1937; a son of the late Christopher Cleo and Charlotte Agnes Nelson Harris.

 

A native of Henderson County; Dr. Harris proudly served his country for 29 years in the United States Navy. During his military career he served in the Vietnam War and was awarded with the Amsus Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Ribbon, Combat Action Ribbon, Beriut Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Air Medal, Legion of Merit Medal, and Flight Surgeon Wings.  Following his retirement from the Navy; he began his career as a self-employed psychiatrist which he continued for 25 years until his retirement.

 

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Martha Marie Healey Harris of the home; one son, Daniel Martin Harris of Hendersonville; one daughter, Charlotte Ann Chapman of Jonesborough, TN; two granddaughters, Zoe and Suzanna Chapman; and by two sisters, Paula Brown of MT and Jeannie Mullis of TN.

 

His funeral service will be held 12:00 noon on Thursday, November 9th, 2017 in the Chapel of the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain, NC. Burial will follow in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
