Barbara Brockmann, 76, of Fletcher, passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, November 16, 2018 with her family by her side.

Barbara was a Henderson County Head Start teacher and an ESL teacher at Hendersonville H.S. and Blue Ridge Community College. In retirement, she sold photography at mountain craft fairs and at the Curb Market in Hendersonville.

Barbara loved long drives in the mountains and sitting by babbling streams. She loathed injustice, bigotry and inequality and fought to right the wrongs of the world where she saw them. Above all else, Barbara loved being a mom.

She is survived by her sons, Damien and his partner, Lorrayne of Austin, TX and Derek and his husband Frank, of Greer, SC; and her little dog, Ozzie.

The world is a much better place, having had her beautiful spirit in it.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Home. She will be buried next to her kin at Woods Cemetery on the banks of Sam Rayburn Lake in East Texas.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a small donation in Barbara’s honor to one of the following charities that fight for the causes she cared so deeply about — poverty, education, immigration and human rights: El Centro of Henderson County; Pisgah Legal Services; or the Carter Center in Atlanta, GA.
