Betty Jo Plyler Harwell, 90, of Hendersonville died at Life Care Center of Hendersonville on Sunday, November 25, 2018.  She was born on August 4, 1928 in Monroe.   The daughter of the late James Lathan and Mary Elizabeth Carnes Plyler.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Jerry Franklin Harwell; her beloved granddaughter, Anna Wesley Huneycutt; and two sisters: Jimmie Pritchard and Ann Beaumont Price.

 

She graduated from Appalachian State Teachers College “ASU” and taught elementary school in Hawaii, Florida and North Carolina before retiring from the Buncombe County School System in the late seventies.

 

She is survived by one son, Jeff Harwell and his wife Lisa, of Hendersonville; one daughter, Julie Huneycutt and her husband Don, of Hendersonville; three grandchildren:  Joshua Huneycutt of San Francisco, CA, Mark Huneycutt of Fayetteville, and Sarah Huneycutt of Asheville.

 

A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Thos. Shepherd’s Church Street Chapel with Reverend Chas Morris officiating.  Burial will be private.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Betty Jo’s memory be directed to Anna’s Hope in care of The Community Foundation of Henderson County, PO Box 1108, Hendersonville, NC 28793.
