Christine E. Folwell was born on December 26, 1929 anddied on November 2, 2017.

 

Christine grew up in Miami Florida.  She was active in church and musical activities in Miami, including the Jesu Drama Guild.  She was known for her beautiful soprano voice and sang in many venues in Miami and Central Florida.She was a devoted care giver, and took great joy in her work as an obstetric/gynecological nurse in Orlando.  Later, answering a need to minister to clergy families, she went on to found the Episcopal Clergy Family Network conducting and co-authoring the first sociological study of Episcopal clergy families in the nation.  Her work with ECFNcontinues to touch countless lives.

 

In Hendersonville, NC, where she spent the last 26 years, she was active in the Belfrey Players, Safelight services for women and children (formerly Mainstay), St James Thrift Shop, and the Children and Family Resource Center, among other community and church activities.

 

She is remembered for her riotous sense of humor, courage, and her passion for  serving the lives of others.  She was smart, beautiful, talented, and will be missed profoundly by all who knew her.

 

She was the beloved wife of William H. Folwell, (former bishop of the Diocese of Central Florida) for 68 years, mother of Ann Folwell Stanford (Marisa), Mark Thomas Folwell (Kathy) and Susan Elizabeth Folwell,.She is deeply mourned by her family, including 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grand children and a host of friends.

 

Her funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 6th, 2017 at St. James Episcopal Church officiated by the Reverend Dr. Joel Hafer.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the Children and Family Resource Center, Safelight (formerly Mainstay), or St. James Charititable Foundation, all in Hendersonville.
