Edna Pruitt Cox Allison, age 91 of Horse Shoe, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at Tore’s Home. She was born June 16, 1926 in Henderson County; a daughter of the late, Carl Pruitt and Dora Ann Collins Pruitt. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Grady Cox; her second husband, Melvin Allison; three children, Jerry Cox, Audrey Steele and Allan Cox; and by two siblings, Charles Pruitt and Clara Mae Hill.

 

A native and lifelong resident of Henderson County; she was a member of the Hedrick-Rhodes V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and the Etowah Lions Club. She loved her family dearly; she was truly the matriarch of the family, a graceful lady who set an example of a life well lived. She attended Beulah Baptist Church and enjoyed crocheting.

 

She is survived by her three daughters, Edna Irene Cox Barnwell and her husband, Billy, Carol Cox Moore and her husband, Gene and Melva Allison Haggar Dye and her husband, Charles; seven grandchildren, Lisa Roberts, Becky Gilbert, Brian Cox, Shelley Earley, Jennifer McCallister, Kimberly Washburn and Stephen Cox; fifteen great-grandchildren; and by four siblings, Clyde Pruitt, Geneva Blackwell, Eugene Pruitt and Lily Ann Gray. She was anticipating the birth of her first great-great grandchild.

 

Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m.  on Saturday, May 26, 2018 in Thos. Shepherd’s Church Street Chapel officiated by the Reverend Tony Galloway and Reverend Dewey Barnwell. Burial will follow the service in Shaw’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

 

Her family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Thos. Shepherd & Son.

 

Serving as pallbearers will be Colby Langford, Derek Washburn, Todd McCallister, Rodney Gilbert, Justin Crum and Dustin Yingst.

 

Flowers are welcome, or donations in Edna’s memory may be directed to Etowah-Horse Shoe Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 909, Horse Shoe, NC 28742.
