Gloria Ann Swenson of Hendersonville, NC, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 4, 2018.  Gloria was born in 1932 to the late, Clarence and Cora Gelhausen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Robert Swenson and two sisters, Lois Hein and Jean Bartl.

 

She grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where she and her husband raised three children.  Gloria spent many hours helping women in “Reach for Recovery”, a cancer recovery organization.

 

Gloria was heavily involved at Etowah United Methodist Church where she was involved with helping others serving with “Fishes and Loaves” and “Women’s Circle”.

She loved the Lord and spent countless hours praying for others, daily devotions and reading the Bible. She also had a passion for Bridge (both playing and teaching), reading, crosswords puzzles and watching Jeopardy.

 

She is survived by; two sons, Thomas Swenson, Craig Swenson and his wife, Jody, one daughter, Julie Klohs; and five grandchildren, Matthew Swenson and his wife, Karlee, Tracy Helander and husband, Nicholas, Kristina Alton, Nicole Swenson, and Zachary Klohs.

 

A celebration of Gloria’s life will be held at Etowah United Methodist Church on Friday, June 15, 2018 at 11:00 am.

 

Flowers are welcome, or donations in Gloria’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

 

Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors and Cremation Memorial Center is in charge of the arrangements.
