Lucille M. Michelin, of Hendersonville, NC, formerly of Bladen County, NC and Englewood, Fl passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2018.  She had been a resident of Henderson County for nearly 12 years.

Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, William, her adoptive parents, Mary and Sonny Reaume, her birth parents Marie and Joel LaForest, two brothers, Raymond and Pete LaForest, and a sister, Catherine Palfy, as well as her beloved aunts, Eleanor, Theresa, and Elsie Hutek.

Lucille was born June 9, 1924 in Belle River, Ontario, Canada.  After her mother died when she was only 3 years old, she was adopted by relatives Sonny and Mary Reaume of Tilbury, Ontario.  In 1950, she married William Michelin of Detroit, Michigan, and they moved to Englewood, FL where she spent 40 years as a loving wife and mother, devoting her life to raising her children and enriching their lives.

In 1976, she proudly became a US citizen, coinciding with the country’s bicentennial celebration.  In later years, when her husband’s health failed, they both relocated to North Carolina to be nearer one of their daughters. Initially moving to the eastern part of the state, she eventually settled in the mountains of western NC after her husband passed away.

She enjoyed holidays and instilled in her children a love of decorating for them, and was proud of her collection of Santas.  She also enjoyed reading, cross-word puzzles, gardening, yard sales, art, piano playing, and had a talent for sewing.   In her retirement years, Lucille enjoyed being treated to mother-daughter trips, traveling to Holden Beach and Blowing Rock, NC, Charleston, SC, Gatlinburg and Jonesboro, TN, Abingdon, VA, Washington, D.C., and lastly, a nostalgic trip back to the southwest Florida area where she had spent so many years.  These trips were a source of great happiness, with much laughter and great memories made.

Lucille had a quick wit and a positive outlook; she was a joy to be around and will be missed beyond words, every day in every way.  Always the devoted mother, Lucille is survived by her three daughters, Marianne Michelin, Kathleen ‘Kass’ Auletti and husband Richie, both of Hendersonville, NC, Nannette Lewis and husband Gardelle of Augusta, GA; four grandchildren, Duke, Cole, Linzmarie, and Melissa; eight great-grandchildren, Amelia, Blair, Carly, Duncan, Nolan, Aidan, Kieran and Paddy; a brother, Donald Reaume and wife Marion of London, Ontario, long-time close family friend Judy Townsend, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Thos. Shepherd’s Church Street Chapel; with a Celebration of Life and luncheon to be held at The Cedars immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Smile Train, P. O. Box 96231, Washington, D.C. 20090 or Four Season’s Hospice, 571 S. Allen Rd., Flat Rock, NC 28731.
