Mildred E. Lyda, age 102 of Edneyville, died Thursday, January 4th, 2018 at the Life Care Center of Hendersonville. She was born March 26th, 1915 in Henderson County; a daughter of the late Henry Grady Edney and Minnie Lee Waters Edney. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred William Lyda in 1976; one son, Wayne Fredrick Lyda in 1972; three brothers, Dwight, Grady and Kermit Edney and by one sister, June Stepp. She was also preceded in death by special beloved friends, Amelia Duncan, Helen Morgan and Dot Peterson.
A native and lifelong resident of Henderson County; Mrs. Lyda was a direct descendant of Asa Edney and brother, Samuel Edney co-founders of Edneyville. She retired from the Henderson County School System, working in the cafeteria of Edneyville High School for many years. She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
She is survived by one son, Norman C. Lyda and his wife, Gloria of Edneyville; four grandchildren, Clarissa “Crissy” Becker and her husband, Jason of Bluffton, SC, Tim Lyda and his wife, Marcia of Edneyville, Frederick Lyda and his wife, Cathey of Edneyville and Tracy Greenbaum and her husband, David of Palm Beach, FL; great-grandchildren, Zach Sharpe and his wife, Elaina and Bailey Sharpe, Christian and Caden Becker, Sydney, Sierra, Shawna and Cloe Lyda.
Her funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 9th, 2018 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church officiated by the Reverend Canon Richard Rowe and the Reverend Jack Watson. Burial will follow in St. Paul’s Community Cemetery.
The family will receive friends following the interment during a reception at the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations in Mildred’s memory be directed to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 70, Edneyville, NC 28727.
