Octavia Freeman Beddingfield, born April 18, 1922, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2018 at Carolina Reserve in Hendersonville.

Octavia was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who inspired her family and encouraged them to follow their dreams. During her life, she was the postmaster of the Tuxedo Post Office, the author of a detailed genealogy on the Freeman family, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and an artist who enjoyed painting her beloved mountains as well as other landscapes of American life.  She also enjoyed making quilts for her family and crocheting lace and doilies that she loved giving to her friends and family.

Octavia was the daughter of Ogilvie Freeman, Sr. and Alice Capps Freeman, and the wife of the late Maze Cleveland Beddingfield. She spent her whole life in Tuxedo, NC, a place she loved. Her life can best be summed up by this quote given to her dear friend Terry Ruscin to be included in his book: “It was all delightful to me. No one ever had it better than I did. We were never rich, didn’t make a big splash in the world, but we had a wonderful life. We were a close-knit family.”

Octavia is survived by one sister, Sybil Freeman Tankersley, her son, Ronnie Beddingfield and his wife, Joyce, her daughter, Anita Reid and her husband, Hal, as well as by her six grandchildren:  Carmen Armour, Zach Beddingfield, Ashley Creasman, Ken Forte, Matthew Reid, and Ashley Reid-Wormgoor.  She also had six great-grandchildren.  Her brother Ogilvie Freeman, Jr. and her sister Mary Alice Freeman Hardison preceded her in death.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 2, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Shepherd Memorial Park officiated by Father H. Alexander Viola.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Henderson County Genealogical & Historical Society, 400 North Main Street, Hendersonville, NC 28792 or to the Green River Community Association, P.O. Box 82, Zirconia, NC 28790
